Our pressure treated timber PTGV planed tongue and groove boards are ideal for making your own garden buildings – sheds, summer houses, playhouses, kennels etc. The finished size is 12 x 122mm – approximately 1/2 x 5 inches – but this will vary with weather conditions. Each board will cover 112mm.

The timber is carefully selected from sustainable, certified, slow grown forests to ensure we meet your quality and environmental requirements. Our PTGV is pressure treated for extra long life.

When the timber is treated it swells – it is important to bear this in mind when constructing your buildings. The drier the timber when you install it – the less issues you will have with shrinkage in the summer months.

As with all natural materials, our Timber supply may be subject to movement and deterioration as they season, this is not to considered to be a fault or defect. This may become evident with shakes, splits and warping.

Tongue and Groove Cladding FAQ's

Tongue and Groove Cladding FAQ's

What is Tongue & Groove Cladding?

Tongue and groove cladding is a type of joint in which one board features a groove (or slot) and another board features a tongue. The boards fit perfectly together vertically or horizontally.

The result is a sleek, contemporary finish that creates a seamless connection between the panels.

As the panels physically connect to each other, installation is often easier and requires less expertise. As a result, tongue and groove profiles are often popular for self-build projects like sheds or garden offices.

Tongue and groove cladding offers increased stability, durability and thermal insulation.

Where is Tongue & Groove Cladding Used?

Tongue and groove cladding is used in interior walls, beams, and floors. The lengthwise strips create an effect that is most appropriate in these spaces.

Courtesy of its simplicity and ease of instalment, tongue and groove cladding is very popular, especially given its practicality and aesthetic appeal.

Timber cladding offers a great way to update the look of your home, available in a range of materials and sizes, we have the right cladding to make a statement to your property.

Tongue & Groove or Shiplap Cladding

As a general rule, shiplap is the better choice for a very rainy climate, as its overlapping planks shed water quite well.

Tongue and groove, on the other hand, can deteriorate in wet climates due to trapped water inside the interlocking connections.

Is Tongue & Groove Cladding Waterproof?

Tongue and groove panels are 100% waterproof. All of our panels are made out of non-porous, waterproof materials that don’t soak up moisture. The water stays on the surface where it can be wiped away with ease.

Tongue & Cladding Installation

Begin at the bottom, ensuring that the first board is level with the grooved edge facing downwards.

If the width of the board is 150mm or less, it can be attached with a hidden nail diagonally through the tongue. For widths over 150mm, the board should be face-fixed, using two fixings per board.
