Engineering Bricks
Our engineering bricks are primarily used for structural purposes, rather than their appearance. Due to their higher amounts of compressive strength and lack of water absorption, these make them a stronger and more durable brick type. We have a full range of engineering bricks in various styles, colours, textures and sizes, suitable to any building project.Home / Building Materials / Bricks / Engineering Bricks

What are Engineering Bricks?
Engineering bricks are a type of brick used where strength, low water porosity or acid resistance are needed. They are used for their physical characteristics and not their appearance and are only classified by these properties.
Where are Engineering Bricks Used?
They were traditionally used in civil engineering and are most suitable for applications where strength and resistance to frost attack and water are important. Examples of situations where engineering bricks are used include ground-works, manholes, sewers, retaining walls and damp proof courses.
They’re almost as common as your standard facing brick but don’t have anywhere near the same variety of styles. This is partly because you don’t tend to pick them for their aesthetic qualities.
Engineering Brick Rating
Engineering bricks are rated as Class A or Class B, with Class A being the strongest but Class B being more common. Class A engineering bricks have a compressive strength greater than 125N/mm² and water absorption less than 4.5%.
Class B engineering bricks have a compressive strength greater than 75N/mm² and water absorption less than 7%.
Popular Engineering Brick colours
Popular engineering brick colours include red, white, tan, brown, orange, grey, or black, with many different variations within them as well as a wide variety of styles and cuts.
