Output in the construction sector grew by 5.6% in 2022
The construction sector bounced back from the Pandemic and grew by 5.6% in 2022 alone. While London is often regarded as the key hub of new construction projects and infrastructure, this report highlights that the areas which are expected to see the fastest rate of growth over the next five years are the East of England and Yorkshire and the Humber - both expected to see a 2.2% growth rate, largely led by energy-related projects.
Regional aggregate demand
The East Midlands accounted for 29% of the total sales in asphalt and crushed rock throughout the UK in 2022. The East Midlands is also the region that emerged as the most resilient to the downturn last year, having recorded the smallest falls in demand.
Ready-mixed concrete was in highest demand throughout London, accounting for 19% of total sales volumes from fixed plants.
