Sub Base
A Sub Base is the aggregate which lays directly beneath the concrete floor slab, resting on the subgrade. It roles is to be on a working platform on which the slab is being constructed on.
What is a Sub Base?
In construction, a Sub Base is the layer of aggregate material laid directly on top of the subgrade, on which the base course layer is positioned.
The role of a Sub Base is to act as working platform for the ground slab to be constructed.
A Sub Base can sometimes be omitted when there will be only minimum traffic, but it is necessary for surfaces which require strength, resilience and load bearing capacity.
The materials used may be either unbound granular, such as crushed stone aggregates, or cement-bound.
Sub Base Benefits
A Sub Base is considered critical within some construction projects as it will provide the foundations to enable later stages of the project. If the Sub Base isn’t suitable, then it’s highly likely the wider development won’t be delivered as intended, even if not immediately evident.
A well prepared Sub Base will often outlive the longevity of the upper surface materials, which means that the initial groundworks may not have to be re-worked in the future.
Sub bases are also known to support improved drainage when paired with the right choice of aggregates.

Other factors influencing the price of Sub-Base can be delivery method, location and volume.
