Mick George Concrete were associated with the large volume Concrete Supply for the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme

This £1.5 billion Highways England project was delivered by the A14 Integrated Delivery Team (a four way contractor joint venture of Costain, Skanska, Balfour Beatty and Carillion and a design joint venture of Atkins and CH2M), creating 21 miles of improved and new A14 carriageway.

The new road opened at the end of 2020, with some work, such as the removal of the Huntingdon viaduct continuing beyond that.

Project Aims

The scheme will relieve congestion, reduce accidents, connect communities and decrease journey times along this currently congested section of the strategic road network.

Most of the concrete supplied by Mick George Concrete will come from dedicated batching plants which have been set up on site at two of the main construction compound areas in Brampton and Ermine Street. Any additional requirements will be delivered from the company’s existing facilities in the surrounding area.

Record Breaking A14 Concrete Pour

Mick George Concrete completed a ‘record breaking’ pour for for Section 2 – Buckden Road Bridge on the A14 Highway Improvement Scheme.

710m3 of Concrete was supplied by Mick George to form the first half of the bridge deck.

In its entirety, 1,500m3 of Concrete was supplied, equating to 2,800 tonnes of aggregates, and 16 trucks completing 180 dedicated, restricted distance movements from the onsite and nearby batching plants, in just 12-hours.
