Blaby District & Social Drama Group

The high level of productions that have been delivered by the Drama Group operating from Blaby and District Social Centre are set to be further improved thanks to a brand-new workshop that has been installed courtesy of funding from local construction specialists the Mick George Group.

The substantial £21,480 investment has enabled the new facility that will replace the existing 70-year-old prefab dwelling which has rapidly deteriorated over recent times, becoming somewhat impossible to maintain. Not to mention restricting the production levels achieved by the group.

Having completely demolished the original building, the new Concrete structure that has been created will provide a weatherproof store with electrical lighting for sorting and storing both props and staging, as well as a location for producing significantly enhanced sets.

The location has historically been an outlet for those with theatrical ambition to display their talents, providing performances that have been much enjoyed and well attended by the local community. It is envisaged that the advanced offering will provide additional pleasure to a wider and more diverse audience.

The works aren’t due to stop there either. Plans are being formulated to improve the Blaby & District Social Centre setting further, with advances to the heating and water system, as well as an extension to the tarmacked parking area.

Clive Pett, Vice Chairman of Blaby & District Social Centre said: ‘’The grant has enabled the thriving Blaby Drama group to continue and hopefully expand in the years to come. We expect that the changes will encourage new members to join and participate in all aspects of the Drama Group. We are particularly grateful to the Mick George Group for their generosity.’’

Stuart Costello, Head of Marketing at the Mick George Group commented: ‘’Leicestershire is increasingly becoming one of our core operating territories and alongside that we recognise the importance in giving something back to the local community for their ongoing support. We would urge any community initiatives that are in need of financial assistance to utilise our Community Fund programme which has been devised for exactly that purpose.’’
