Government WEEE Targets
The UK Government has announced its household Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) collection targets for 2024.
Concerns are growing surrounding the environmental consequences of electronic waste, with e-waste now the fastest growing waste stream globally.
The total household WEEE collection target for 2024 is 482,335 tonnes, which is an increase of 2% from 2023.
With the rate at which e-waste disposal is increasing, this target increase represents the government’s commitment to protecting the environmental impact caused from electronic waste with a push for improved sustainability.
2024 WEEE Targets
Within the targets that have been put forward, specific collection goals have been established for various e-waste categories.
- Large Household Appliances (LHA) = 159,273 tonnes
- Small Mixed WEEE (SMW) = 137,185 tonnes
- IT and Telecoms Equipment = 41,415 tonnes
- Display Equipment = 46,239 tonnes
