TV Disposal

TV Disposal
Probably one of the most used items in any household, the TV is often a families most prized possession and the hub of any living room. Courtesy of technological advancements, TV brands are forever developing new and improved models for us to buy, whether it’s a larger size, surround-sound, or a smart TV that makes watching your favourite Sport all that bit easier, we’re constantly looking to upgrade.
Naturally, that means TV disposal is increasing. Classified as Hazardous WEEE Waste, TV’s can have a negative environmental impact if not disposed of correctly.
Historically, televisions and computer monitors would often end up in landfill at the end of their life, but it is becoming increasingly easier to safely recycle them. If your monitor or TV cannot be repaired or salvaged for parts, it should be properly disposed of. Large electronics like TVs and monitors shouldn’t be disposed of in landfill.
Monitors and televisions are made up of many complex materials such as metals, plastics, glass, and electrical components. TV and monitor screens as well as other electronics can often release dangerous or toxic substances that can harm you and the environment when disposed of incorrectly. For example, flat screens like LCD screens can release mercury during the disposal process, which needs to be handled correctly to prevent contamination.
