Mobile Phone Waste Disposal
The Mick George Group collect, segregate and manage Waste Electrical and Electronic equipment (WEEE) such as Mobile Phones to safeguard against potentially harmful materials contaminating other waste streams, saving you additional landfill charges.
Mobile Phone Waste Disposal
When you consider that the average person will own their own mobile phone or smartphone by the age of just 10 and will subsequently go on to upgrade it every 2-years, owning approximately 35 mobile phones during their lifetime, you get a better sense of how severe the subject of mobile phone waste recycling, really is.
In the past, old mobile phones would often end up in landfill at the end of their life, but it is becoming increasingly easier to safely recycle them. If your mobile phone cannot be repaired or salvaged for parts, it should be properly disposed of. Mobile phones shouldn’t be disposed of in household waste and can be recycled but cannot be mixed in with regular home recycling like paper and plastic. Both mobile phones and their charging cables and accessories count as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment or WEEE and must be disposed of correctly.
Modern mobile phones and smartphones are made up of many complex materials such as metals, plastics, glass, and electrical components. Mobiles as well as other electronics can often release dangerous or toxic substances that can harm you and the environment when disposed of incorrectly. For example, smartphones can release mercury during the disposal process, which needs to be handled correctly to prevent contamination. If disposed of correctly, up to 80% of phone materials can be recycled and reused.
