Type 1 MOT Granite

The Mick George Group are leading producers and suppliers of Type 1 MOT Granite.

MOT Type 1 Granite is usually used for making roads, to be laid and compacted under tarmac, and is approved by the department of transport (MOT) for laying under major motorways. This material is non-frost susceptible and is not quarried by The Mick George Group.

In order for it to be classified as Type 1, it must comply with the Department of Transport Specifications for Highway Works, clause 803. Type 1 MOT can be made from granite, limestone or clean crushed concrete. Type 1 MOT (also sometimes called MOT Type 1 or DOT Type 1, named after the Department of Transport) ranges in size from 63mm down to dust, however the majority of the material are 40mm down. Its small size creates an easily compactable aggregate.

Type 1 MOT is best used as a high-quality fill or subbase material for things like road construction, driveways and parking lots. It’s also great for trench fills, backfills, and oversite fills. Type 1 MOT is commonly used to replace limestone and granite since each of these aggregates have a limited availability and can be expensive to quarry and transport. Type 1 MOT crushed concrete can serve the same functions as many other crushed stone aggregate, but at a more reasonable cost.
