What is C16 Timber?

C16 is the most commonly used form of timber, utilised for different applications courtesy of its cost-effective nature.

C16 timber is kiln dried, to minimise the amount of moisture

This grade of timber is commonly used within internal construction such as floors, walls and roof joists, courtesy of its strength and other properties such as bending, compression and density which are required for construction.

The Mick George Group have a full range of C16 timber that are suitable for all construction projects.

C16 Timber vs C24 Timber

It is impossible to state categorically that one timber grade is better than the other as the preferred timber for your project comes down to what features are important to you.

With regards to strength and load carrying, C24 boards are clearly superior to C16, however, C16 timber is strong enough for most projects and will certainly meet your performance requirements at a much cheaper cost than C24 boards will.

If the aesthetic appeal of timber is important to you, then C24 is more beneficial than C16 boards.  The main benefit of C24 over C16 boards in instances where both boards are adequate is that C24 boards can have a wider rafter centre or a smaller deck board section, giving you more choice in the finished aesthetic.

C16 Timber Outside

C16 timber is used for structural work in many types of wood-framed buildings. This can mean frames for a house or other building, or it can mean joists within a roof, wall, or floor.

It can also be used for decking or other external features, providing it is treated.

Burning C16 Timber

No. It’s not okay to burn treated wood. You have the same set of toxic chemicals you’re going to release into the air once you burn the lumber.

Is C16 Timber Stamped

If you can’t see a stamp on the wood, don’t use it. All graded timber will be stamped with C16 or C24.

If you re-saw the timber within the cross section or thickness, then the strength grade of the timber can be compromised.
