What is Moisture Resistant Plasterboard?

Moisture or water resistant plasterboard is the best and only appropriate type of drywall to use for areas of high moisture and humidity, such as kitchens or bathrooms.

With special water-resistant and water repellent substances, you can make sure you can use a shower or basin without worrying about splashes or humidity issues.

Moisture Resistant Plasterboard contains additives which are used to prevent moisture accumulation on the wall, these additives can be found in the core of the plasterboard.

They are excellent for high humidity areas but, as all gypsum plasters soak up moisture quickly, it would be counter productive to plaster them.

Moisture Resistant Plasterboard usually comes in with a green face and is not usually plastered.

We have a full range of moisture resistant plasterboard available in a variety of sizes. Perfect for both residential and commercial buildings where moisture is more likely to be apparent on a regular basis.

Where is Moisture Resistant Plasterboard Used?

Moisture Resistant Plasterboard is designed to cope with frequent exposure to water, making it perfect for those rooms in your house that are more likely to experience this.

Using moisture resistant plasterboard in bathrooms and kitchens is now seen as industry standard, because of their qualities in reducing the risk of water damage.

Its important that in environments which encounter humidity you only use Moisture Resistant Plasterboard, otherwise it will decay the quality of the board over time and can result in loss of effectiveness of any insulating properties. Using non-moisture-resistant plasterboards in a moist area will lead to damp and mould making it eventually rot over time.

Moisture Resistant Plasterboard Locations

Installing moisture resistant drywall in the bathroom can help prevent growth of mould. This type of drywall should however not be installed behind ceramic tiles.

If you are already using your finished attic, it could be exposed to mould growth at one time or another because of its proximity to the roof.
