Role Purpose
Reporting to the Site Manager, Earthworks Division, this hands-on supervisory role is responsible for leading a gang of operatives and plant operators on live earthworks and soil stabilisation projects. You will manage the day-to-day delivery of your section of the works, coordinating labour and plant resources, maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality, and ensuring accurate site records are kept, while gaining valuable experience and a clear progression pathway towards a Site Manager position.
Responsibilities:
- Supervising daily earthworks and soil stabilisation operations, ensuring safe and efficient delivery
- Allocating labour and plant using allocation sheets, and monitoring attendance, performance and site compliance
- Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with RAMS, specification and site instructions
- Delivering inductions, toolbox talks and shift briefings, and confirming they have been understood
- Completing and checking timesheets, daily worksheets, GRNs and site records accurately and on time
- Managing plant inspections, defect reporting and efficient utilisation of equipment
- Monitoring quality including compaction, moisture control, levels, tolerances and material suitability, and escalating non-conformances promptly
- Enforcing health, safety, environmental and PPE requirements, and reporting hazards, near misses and incidents
- Verifying material deliveries, monitoring usage and preventing waste
- Acting as the link between operatives, subcontractors, engineers and the site management team
Skills & Qualifications Required
Essential
- Minimum three years supervising earthworks or plant operations
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- CSCS Gold Supervisory Card, or a relevant skilled card with a commitment to achieve Supervisory status
- Sound working knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements on site
- Ability to maintain accurate site records using company systems — training on COINS provided
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Experience of soil stabilisation using lime and cement binders
- CPCS or NPORS tickets — dumper, roller, telehandler, excavator or ADT
- NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Work Supervision
- First Aid at Work
- Experience working on major infrastructure schemes as a subcontractor to tier one contractors
