Asbestos Guttering

Asbestos was a popular building product up until the 1980s, meaning that houses built during that period may include Asbestos guttering.

If the guttering on your property has never been replaced or the sliding on your house is original, there is a strong possibility that your materials contain Asbestos and should be removed at the earliest convenience.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to tell from observation whether Asbestos is present in your guttering. If you are concerned about guttering but aren’t sure what the material is made from, it is necessary to have an Asbestos survey carried out to establish the presence of the material.

As with all forms of Asbestos, Asbestos guttering can only be dangerous if it is in a poor condition or is at a risk of being disturbed but we would still advise that Asbestos guttering is upgraded at the earliest opportunity to prevent any later problems.

If you are certain that Asbestos is present in your guttering removal may be the the best option. However it may be appropriate to leave the Asbestos in place if it is in good condition. However, if you are sure the Asbestos needs to be removed you should not attempt to carry it out yourself unless you have significant training and experience working with Asbestos. Disturbing Asbestos can a health hazard.
