ACM Asbestos Use

ACM is short for Asbestos containing materials and refers to any material that contains more than 1% Asbestos. Asbestos use was a very popular between 1940 and 1990 before its dangerous effects were known, favoured for its durability and resistance to heat and chemicals. It had a very wide range of applications, and some of the most common Asbestos uses included Asbestos blankets, car brakes, floor tiles, garage roofs, mattress filling, plaster and much more. Although the use of Asbestos has now been outlawed, many ACMs still exist today and could potentially pose a health risk.

Asbestos Fibres

ACM Asbestos can be safe if the fibres are intact and haven’t been broken or degraded over time. However, ACM that has been damaged could release harmful Asbestos particles into the air that can do significant harm when inhaled. Care should also be taken if you suspect the presence of ACM in a property where renovation or building work is planned as this could potentially disturb the Asbestos. If you think there may be ACMs in your home, it can be difficult to be certain just by looking, so the safest course of action is to call in a professional.

The Mick George Group are proud to cover all aspects of Asbestos management, and we are fully qualified to confirm the presence of ACM Asbestos in your property and offer expert advice on how it should be dealt with. Some ACM may be safe if left alone, but in some cases encapsulation to render the Asbestos safe may be necessary, or we can offer a safe removal service.

When removing Asbestos containing materials, our highly trained professionals will seal off the affected area, creating an airtight space to capture any particles. If deemed necessary, air monitoring practices may also be employed to guarantee that the area is safe for reoccupation once all the ACM has been removed. Once safely removed, all Asbestos will be double-bagged and sealed, safely labelled, handled and disposed of at our licensed waste disposal site.

Discovering ACM Asbestos in your home or commercial property can be worrisome. The Mick George Group can offer expert advice and answer any questions you may have to put your mind at ease and guide you through the Asbestos management process from start to finish. Get in touch today and see how we can help to keep your property free of ACM.
