Asbestos Cement Boards / Sheets

Asbestos cement, also known as Transite, is a cement mixture that contains white Asbestos and is used in a variety of Asbestos products, primarily in construction. Asbestos cement was particularly popular in the 90s, used in piping, roofing and a variety of other building materials such as Asbestos cement sheets and Asbestos cement boards.

Asbestos cement board and Asbestos cement sheets are at there most dangerous whilst being prepared, and so Asbestos cement is generally considered to be safe as long as it is intact, as the fibres are bonded into the product.

However, Asbestos cement can corrode and deteriorate over time. Asbestos cement that is broken or crumbling is potentially dangerous as this can release harmful Asbestos particles into the air which can then be inhaled. If you suspect there might be Asbestos cement in your residential or commercial property, the safest course of action is to call in professionals, who can assess if Asbestos removal, encapsulation or other appropriate services should be applied to prevent any cement bonded Asbestos from escaping.
