Asbestos in Concrete
Asbestos Concrete, also known as Transite, is a cement mixture that contains white Asbestos and is used in a variety of Asbestos products, primarily in construction. Asbestos was particularly popular in the 90s, used in piping, roofing and a variety of other building materials such as Asbestos Concrete sheets and Asbestos Concrete boards.
How can I tell if Concrete contains Asbestos?
It is almost impossible to tell if Concrete products contain Asbestos just by looking. Asbestos Concrete is at its most dangerous whilst being prepared, and so Asbestos Concrete is generally considered to be safe as long as it is intact, as the fibres are bonded into the finished product. However, Concrete can corrode and deteriorate over time and any that is broken or crumbling is potentially dangerous as this can release harmful Asbestos particles into the air which can then be inhaled. If you suspect there might be Asbestos Concrete in your residential or commercial property, the safest course of action is to call in professionals.
