Bark Chippings in Sandy

When Bark Chippings are used as a mulch replacement they offer a number of benefits, including the ability too:

The two products can be used for many similar things, but there are a few differences.

Wood chip is rather more durable than bark chippings, which are generally softer, smaller, and rot down faster, however bark can be more attractive.

So where you want a more lasting effect, go for wood chip.

For most applications where Bark Chippings are used, it is advisable to lay a membrane between the soil and the chippings.

Use sheets of polythene or plastic and punch holes through at roughly 30cm intervals for drainage.

There are various grades of weed suppressant fabrics which are ideal for this purpose.

Bark mulch and wood chippings can visually last for up to 2 years, meaning it’s recommended to replace or refresh the mulch in your garden after a year or so.

Bark mulch provides a physical barrier to weeds, making them more difficult to penetrate and grow due to a lack of sunlight.

The thickness of the bark acts as a deterrent for weed seeds, which is why it’s vital to lay down a generous layer.
