All standard Sandstone Paving sizes are available for adjustment and cutting for customised requirements.

To minimise wastage and, or to increase design options, we supply single size slabs and mixed size packs.

Sandstone is produced with grains of sand held together by a silicon based ‘cement’.

It’s this ‘cement’ that gives the sandstone its various colours, textures and toughness.

The natural stone composition means that different colour shades, formed within the layers of rock, will be present in Sandstone Paving. If dry, it might not be so obvious, but when wet, the colours will deepen to a more vibrant hue.

Autumn Brown, Raj Green, Kandla Grey and Mint Fossil are just some of the common Sandstone Paving colours we have available.

Traditionally, Sandstone Paving has a ridged or riven surface but there is the option to apply a smoother and shinier finish – perhaps not suitable in areas where children or elderly people are frequently present.

Alternatively, why not go for the ‘Sandblasted’ option to remove the riven texture, leaving a surface of small dimples for increased grip.

Quarried from historic layers of rock, compressed for centuries, Sandstone Paving is extremely robust and weather resistant.

While it has a dense make-up, it can be prone to scratching or denting, so we’d advise treading carefully when situating heavy items on its surface.

Although Sandstone Paving attributes strong water absorption qualities, some of the lower value, softer ranges will be more susceptible to some water or spillage retention and will subsequently need little maintenance.

In addition to a periodic clean, adding a sealant should do the job.

To regulate the thickness of the slab, calibration can be applied, which will significantly ease the installation process. Typically, these are calibrated at approximately 22mm.

Dependent on whether you’re trying to achieve a more modern or rustic appearance, will determine whether a Hand Dressed, Sawn or Tumbled edge is suitable:

• Hand Dressed Sandstone Paving: slabs split to size using a hammer and chisel, creating natural seams and a rough edge.
• Sawn Sandstone Paving: straight edged slabs which provide neat, clean and contemporary appearance.
• Tumbled Sandstone Paving: intentionally distressed, so they instantly match their surroundings.
  There’s even the option to create a circular focal point with Sandstone Paving.

Although we’d always advise having Sandstone Paving installed by a professional, it is achievable by the average DIY’er with if following the appropriate guidelines:

• 100mm sub-base layer with a fall for water runoff.
• Prime bottom of the slabs with a fine mortar slurry.
• Lay on a full mortar (4:1) bed, approximately 30mm thick.
• Joints should be 8mm to 10mm apart.
• Bed Paving down firmly into the mortar by tapping lightly with a rubber mallet.
• Fill joints with a mortar mix of four parts sand to one part cement.
• Set for at least 24 hours before walking on it.
