Building Demolition
The Mick George Group are acknowledged as one of the leading Demolition Contractors in the Anglia and East Midlands region, trusted to take care of building demolition of all types including residential house demolition and garage demolition.
Building Demolition
There are many reasons to tear down a house or garage. Maybe you’re simply clearing the way to construct your dream house or perhaps there are complex structural issues that would be more expensive to fix than it would be to start over.
Every building has a lifespan, typically recognised by an architect as 80-100 years. When a building or house has reached the end of its life span, it might become dangerous for habitation or to the adjacent buildings around it.
Whatever the motivating factors, demolishing a house is a big job that requires a clear plan to ensure the appropriate demolition techniques are applied.
Building and House Demolition Techniques
Demolition specialists like the Mick George Group will typically apply two methods to building and house demolition.
The first being Deconstruction; the process of removing useful materials by hand, preserving and repurposing resources for later use. The second using plant or machinery to complete a more comprehensive destruction of the building, with the resulting debris being hauled away as construction waste afterwards.
How Long Does it Take to Demolish a House?
The time taken for demolition work really depends on the scale and complexity of the work, but will typically take between four and eight days. If the building is a semi detached or terraced house, the adjoining buildings will require support following demolition, potentially adding to the cost.
If there is specialist work required, such as removing asbestos (often found in the form of cladding, roofing and rainwater goods) this can complicate issues and add to the duration.
House Demolition Timescales & Costs
Building demolition cost and timescales will vary dependent on the size of your house or garage, and the materials it’s made up of; for example removing load bearing walls.
Often, the largest part of the total demolition cost is the disposal of the materials. However, the Mick George Group frequently reuse and recycle construction demolition waste, saving you money.
Other building Demolition projects:
Garage demolition is often a consequence of no longer serving its purpose, or it’s merely in poor condition.
Many garages often include Asbestos materials, which the Mick George Group are licenced to remove, alongside all other waste materials when any completing demolition works.
The Mick George Group can demolish all types of building, large or small and safely remove all waste materials from your location.
Do I need permission to demolish a building?
Building demolition is covered by the Building Act 1984. At least six weeks notice should be given to the Local Authority Building Control before demolition begins.
The Local Authority Building Control may decide to issue a notice to specify conditions that need to be met which may include precautions to protect adjoining properties and the public.
The Mick George Group will ensure that all demolition work’s are completed in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, ensuring that Building Regulations relating to site preparation and resistance to contaminants and moisture are compliant.
