Cromwell Community College
A multi-phase project at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris is set to get underway that will see the current facility extended to include new primary school and pre-school amenities, as well as an increase to the secondary and sixth-form provisions made available.
The approved plans incorporate purpose-built accommodation for 210 primary school pupils, creation of a 52-pupil pre-school, and a 150-pupil expansion of the existing Cromwell Community College, through the addition of a new teaching block and some remodelling of the present development layout.
Upgrades will comprise a new main college entrance and central administration facilities to reflect the combined ‘all through school’ for pupils aged 4 to 18, in addition to supplementary classrooms and assembly rooms that will aid the art, science, music and drama sessions provided.
Infrastructure improvements will be made to the access of the existing school car park from Wenny Road, with new disabled bays located close to the new main entrance and primary school. A new pedestrian / cycle access from Wenny Road leading to the new primary school and new main college entrance will also be created.
Local contractor Mick George will shortly commence Earthworks at Wenny Road on behalf of MJS Construction Ltd, with the scheme scheduled for completion by the start of the September 2020 school term.
Michael George, Managing Director at the Mick George Group commented: ‘’The planned advancements will help establish a vibrant learning community that enables students to flourish academically and socially. We’re pleased to play any role in any educational advancements.’’
