Blackwood Crematorium Package
A project to create a ‘state-of-the-art’ crematorium in Blackwood, Gwent is underway with the Mick George Group set to commence Earthworks and Stabilisation works on behalf of Wales based Encon Construction Ltd.
The development is considered by local residents to be ‘much needed’ as the crematorium represents the first to be built in Caerphilly county borough and will be the nearest facility within a 30-minute drive of the 154,000 population.
Planning consent has been granted for a 98-seat chapel, a crematory, an office and a waiting room within a single-storey building on land off Sirhowy Enterprise Way in Pontllanfraith.
A floral tribute area, water feature and memorial gardens will also be created on the four-hectare site to the south of Glanbrynar Farm.
The building will be 42 metres long and comes with 89 car parking spaces – including disabled bays and staff parking.
Visitors will be able to access the site from a new junction off the A4048, with an internal roundabout proposed under the original plans.
Michael George, Managing Director at the Mick George Group commented: ‘Our contracting services are well established in the East of England, but it is always pleasing to see our clients utilise our services further afield.
George continued: We’ve made some significant investments across the business to enable the infrastructure to support this growth, so it’s pleasing to see this come to fruition.’’
