Asbestos Insulating Boards
Asbestos Insulating Boards (or AIB) were commonly used in walls, soffits, ceilings and fire doors for insulating against heat, fire and also sound. Many commercial and residential properties built prior to Asbestos being banned by law still contain Asbestos board in which can become a health hazard under some circumstances.
How can I tell if my insulation board contains Asbestos?
It is very difficult to tell AIB apart from regular insulation board made from safe substances, so it is safest not to make any assumptions. If you are uncertain about AIB or you suspect that the insulation board in your property may contain Asbestos, choosing a professional service to survey and safely handle the Asbestos is the safest way to proceed.
Is Asbestos Insulation Board dangerous?
Asbestos board is considered to be relatively safe when intact, as the Asbestos fibres are woven into the board and are not easily disturbed, and if this is found to be the case then no remedial action may be needed. However, if the board is broken or crumbling, this can release harmful fibres into the atmosphere that can be inhaled and cause significant damage to the body.
