Analysis of Aggregates in the UK

Marketing Researchers have recently published the ‘Analysis of Aggregates Replenishment in Great Britain’ report which reviews the current state of replenishment rates within the aggregates industry in 2021 and for the extended period of 2014–2021.

The 8 year review  provides us with analysis of annual aggregate outputs, consented reserves tonnage information, and calculated replenishment ratios for sand and gravel and crushed rock (hardstone, limestone and sandstone) in the United Kingdom.

The report highlights key data to support the operational and strategic activity of the industry, whilst also identifying areas of opportunities for new work, and provides thought and consideration for the future of aggregate replenishment.

In the latest report for 2021, it was confirmed that almost twice the amount of sand and gravel was withdrawn than replaced through new consents. For crushed rock, whilst the replenishment rate was higher than sand and gravel, it still fell short than what it experienced in 2020. A total of around 104 million tonnes of new crushed rock reserves were consented in 2021 compared with around 126 million tonnes extracted.

Recognised as the main aggregate supplier across the Anglia and East Midlands regions, the Mick George Group supply over 3-million tonnes of quality aggregates each year to the Construction Industries elite to facilitate many high-profile construction developments in the Groups’ operating areas.
