An ongoing initiative that seeks to improve the wellbeing of residents in and around the Civil Parish of Woughton, Milton Keynes has taken a positive step forward, following the installation of a purpose-built Gym at the community Youth Centre.
Courtesy of £15,000 grant from local construction specialist the Mick George Group, a brand-new cabin has been erected in the rear garden of the premises which features a host of modern training equipment.
It is anticipated that the new facility will make huge strides in tackling the unhealthy relationship that many have with food, educating on the linkages between food and exercise.
The amenity is already proving a hit with a variety of audiences, including seniors, new and expectant mums, and those with special needs and, or disabilities, as well as the wider community.
The vacated internal space that previously hosted any physical activities is now being enhanced in to a practice and performance studio, to deliver an improved Arts programme from those running the venue.
Tash Darling, Youth Manager at Woughton Community Council said: ‘’The Gym provides a great opportunity for social integration of people from various backgrounds and abilities. Physical activity can be a powerful mechanism for conveying important messages. We’re extremely grateful to the Mick George Group for their contribution.’’
Stuart Costello, Marketing Director at the Mick George Group commented: ‘’Obesity and eating disorders have attracted a lot of negative media attention in recent years and for good reason. Any initiative that is looking to combat this growing trend should be applauded and is something that we would look to support where feasible.’’
