Having established major success on the field after being crowned East Midlands’ champions last season, Peterborough Lions Rugby Club have another reason to smile, after opening their new changing room facilities at Bretton Road on Saturday, when the team were victorious over Birmingham.
Special guest, MP Stewart Jackson was present for the unveiling, as the investment marks the beginning of a five-year regeneration programme extending the current provisions at the site, adding Netball, Basketball and Tennis Courts, notwithstanding the necessary improvements since making the step up to National Level 3.
The currently council owned premises has undergone major renovation thanks to funding to the tune of from local business Mick George Ltd. The Home and Away dressing rooms have been rebuilt with toilets, showers and storage areas installed.
It’s not just the first team that are achieving either, the club also has a thriving development, social, academy and youth scene which sees in excess of 150 youngsters participating each week, and the new changing facilities will permit further expansion to these sections.

Andy Moore, Chairman of Peterborough Lions Rugby Club said: “We are extremely proud to be opening our new changing facility, which will vastly improve the experience of current members of the club, both adults and juniors. With the additional changing rooms, we can now accommodate more players on match days and this will increase participation in rugby both at adult and junior levels.
Our thanks to Mick George Ltd for their grant of £35,000 from the Mick George Community Fund. Without the financial assistance offered, this and many other sporting facilities would not be available”.

However, this is the first completed venture in to the world of Rugby but one we are particularly proud to be involved.’’
