Waste World Cup

It’s that time off the year again as the waste industry comes together to compete for the prestigious ‘Waste World Cup’ and this year Mick George Ltd are the official partners of the event hosted by

Northampton University, who provide a number of academic courses relevant to Waste Management and the recycling sector, will be the setting for the football tournament, as 21 teams battle it out to become victorious.

The competition has been running since 2003 and Mick George Ltd. will be hoping to break their duck in their quest for glory. The six-a-side contest is a mixed gender tournament with rules stipulating that two girls and boys must be present on the pitch at all times.

Ian Phillips, Commercial Waste Manager at Mick George Ltd said: ‘’The event has created a little banter around the office of late since the squad was announced. I understand the team captain is keen to go one further after falling short in a tense penalty shootout in last year’s final.’’

Phillips continued: ‘We must not forget the day has a real purpose. It provides a great networking opportunity and serves to raise funds for the PODS Charitable Trust. For over 35 years, the PODS Charity has been bringing music, fun and laughter into the lives of over 20,000 children in hospitals each year to relieve distressing situations.’’

To bring a little more fun to the occasion, some of the trademark entertainment elements that are now synonymous with Mick George Ltd will be present on the day. ‘Mick the Skip’ Mascot and the Cheerleaders will make an appearance, while there is up to £300 available for winners of the respective ‘Skip, Wheelie Bin and Crossbar’ challenges.

Charity of the year
We are so grateful that the team at Mick George Ltd chose to help us with this project. Patients, visitors and staff alike will get a great deal of benefit from the garden and we are excited to see it blossom in the months and years to come.
