Wakerley & Barrowden Cricket Club Practice Nets
The season may have recently come to an end, but players at both Wakerley and Barrowden Cricket Club and Ketton Cricket Club certainly have good reason to get back on the practice field ahead of the 2019 campaign.
The two respective Clubs share use of the playing facilities off of Wakerley Road, East Northamptonshire and now they have a brand new £27,000 duel lane, all-weather practice net to enjoy.
The new training equipment has become a necessity due to the popularity of the Club leading to the former turf area becoming severely weather trodden and somewhat unplayable, particularly at times of poor weather conditions.
This village location has been hosting local cricket for over 150 years and is now a beautiful setting for a mixture of boys and girls colt’ teams (U9, U11, U13 and U15) and experienced senior sides competing in the Leicestershire and Rutland leagues.
The new practice facilities complement the bar, kitchen, changing rooms and toilets that have also been upgraded in recent times.
Bob White, Chairman at Wakerley & Barrowden Cricket Club said: ‘’The project will be vital in the future development of current and future players throughout our Club. Quite simply, without the funding from Mick George Ltd we would not have been able to provide the first-rate coaching and practice facilities that we have been fortunate to install. We’re extremely grateful for their generosity.’’
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd: ‘’The business has a couple of sites located nearby so we’re becoming increasingly familiar with the territory and the amenities used by the local community. We’ve recently assisted with the enhancements at the village Coffee Shop and this project is just another way for us to show our appreciation of the support from the local residents.’’
