St. Ives in Bloom
Members of the St. Ives in Bloom group have been clearing flower beds at the town’s park-and-ride site to prepare the area for summer planting.
A planting session took place recently, thanks to sponsorship funding from Mick George Ltd to a value in excess of £1,500 for various material supplies that will supplement the overhaul. This is the third consecutive year that Mick George Ltd has supported the initiative, helping to visually improve the plantation that lines the main thoroughfare in to the car park, for passers-by.
Volunteers and sponsors held a small celebration after all the hard work had been done on the flower beds.
Secretary of the group, Hattie Grimwade said: We have chosen to fill the beds with drought-tolerant planting. That way it is easier for us to maintain as we are only able to visit once a month.’’
The group, which is made up of 30 volunteers, has also been planting wild flowers in the town’s two closed cemeteries.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’The Park and Ride is an important and busy facility that supports many local residents commuting to and from Cambridge. Historically, the visual transformation post-landscaping activity has always been remarkable and makes the experience a far more enjoyable one for those using the amenity.’’
Stump continued: ‘’The volunteers have done a splendid job. This is the fourth year we have supported the project, as it’s nice to give a little back to the local community.’’
