St Ives BookJam

The annual literacy event packed with fun activities for Children, St. Ives Book Jam returned on Saturday 14th May 2016, at the Corn Exchange.

Attracting young budding authors, talented artists, and children who just enjoys reading and having fun, the event hosted numerous workshops and special presenters proving to once again be a hit with the families from the surrounding area.

As with last year, local business Mick George Ltd sponsored this event. The company has donated £3,000 to help fund the various elements to holding the event, and helped make the occasion a memorable one for all involved.

Ros Pascoe, St. Ives Bookjam Committee said: "St. Ives Book Jam has become a very popular event with roughly 400 places being taken up annually. It inspires literacy and imagination in children. The Book Jam could not take place without the generosity of Mick George Ltd to enable us to keep the event free for all children. We are very grateful."

In the lead up to the day, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of an iconic children’s author Roald Dahl, a special competition had been running for children to create a new adventure for their favourite Roald Dahl character. The winners were presented with book tokens up to the value of £40 at the event.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’This is a great initiative that we are pleased to be involved in. It provides the children with an educational opportunity in a fun environment.’’

Stump continued: ‘’Our support for the event is an extension to the on-going work we are doing with local schools to promote road safety and recycling with the Recycle.Bots campaign.’’
