16.08.2016 - Split allegiance as local rivals do battle
Having recently extended its sponsorship partnerships with both St. Neots Town FC and St. Ives Town FC, local construction company Mick George Ltd will have a foot in both camps this evening as the two clubs are reunited in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division fixture from Westwood Road.
After achieving promotion from Southern Division One last year, St. Ives Town FC have had an encouraging pre-season, which has progressed in to the league, taking a respectable four points from their opening three fixtures at the higher level.
Meanwhile, their opponents after narrowly avoiding relegation last term have begun the new season brightly taking six points from a possible nine, leaving them sitting nicely ahead of the local derby.
Both teams come in to the match optimistic and full of confidence in what is sure to be a fiercely competitive contest, with local bragging rights up for grabs.
Mick George Ltd is the official sponsor on the evening, and will be keen to see how their involvement at the respective clubs through academy, scholarship and general development initiatives is helping to improve the sports offering within the local community.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’It’s good to see the return of this fixture. At whatever level, when two local clubs compete against one another, there is always a little extra at stake. We’ve witnessed that first-hand with our professional sponsorship arrangements with Peterborough United FC and Cambridge United FC.’’
Stump continued: ’’We’re looking forward to the game. On and off the pitch you can see progress at both clubs and we will continue to do what we can to ensure that continues’’.
