Waste wood biomass saved roughly 700,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2023.
Waste Wood Figures
An independent report has revealed that the waste wood industry can play a huge role in reducing carbon emissions, greatly improving the chances of achieving net zero by 2050.
The figures have shown that waste wood biomass saved roughly 700,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2023 when compared to the likely displaced energy generation.
Critical Role for Waste Wood
It is believed that the carbon emission savings could be significantly increased to around 3.6 million tonnes if wood waste plants are fitted with carbon capture and storage technology (CCS).
If 3.6 million tonnes are achieved then this would represent a huge 16% of the government’s target to capture 23MtC02 per year by 2035.
