Sawtry Village Academy
Continued progress is being made on the multi-million ‘New Building / Strong Future’ campaign at Sawtry Village Academy, as local contractor Mick George begins Demolition of the three-storey, English block, on behalf of Hutton Construction Ltd.
The project which was commissioned a couple of years back, seeks to provide children at the school the opportunity to prosper in education, following a prolonged lack of leadership under a former headteacher.
Following a long campaign to gain additional funding, which resulted in a £2million grant from Cambridgeshire County Council and the Young Persons committee, the academy has been making enhancements at various intervals.
The first phase includes the construction of a new teaching block that includes 18 new classrooms, prior to a second phase, which will allow refurbishment work to take place on the rest of the school, including replacement of old windows and doors.
The benefits are already being witnessed, with OFSTED sighting ‘a rapid journey of improvement’ since the upgrades began.
Michael George, Managing Director at the Mick George Group commented: ‘’The masterplan for the Sawtry Village Academy will see a complete overhaul of the existing education facilities once complete, which will undoubtedly provide the pupils and staff with a better environment to learn and work. We’re pleased to be involved with the project.’’
