Waste & Recycling Competition for Schools
- 4 School Prizes of £1,000 to be Won
- Plus, Great Pupil Prizes Including iPad Minis
Why take part
It's fun and informative for pupils – simple and flexible for teachers.
Plus, there's some great prizes to be won - including £1,000 for your school and ipad Mini for pupils.
The objectives of the competition are to:
- Encourage pupils to think about the things they throw away and how waste can be reduced.
- Further pupils’ awareness and understanding of what happens to their waste at a local level.
- Help pupils learn about the people and processes involved in returning waste back to the production cycle.
Working as a whole class or in groups, pupils will explore recycling and recyclable materials before building a Recycle Trux Model.
Guided by their teachers and/or parents, pupils will learn about how much waste we produce, why we divert waste from Landfill, what and how we recycle and the effects waste has on our environment. They will complete some simple exercises in the Recycle Trux Pupil Workbook and create a drawing to reflect their learning. The drawings can be entered into the competition too - giving pupils the chance to win an IPad Mini.
You can enter one or both parts of the competition and send us as many entries as you like.
It's easy to work Recycle Trux into your timetable and it can even be completed at home or as an Eco-Club project.

What to do
Recycle Trux is perfect for pupils in Key Stage 2 but we welcome entries from pupils in all year groups within Primary settings.
COLLECT & BUILD - working as a class or group
- Collect up as many different recyclable materials as you can as a class or group. Parents can help with this at home too or it will make the perfect Eco-Club project.
- Build a Recycle Trux Model from the materials you have collected. Have fun, get creative as a class exercise or work in smaller groups. You can even encourage pupils to make a Recycle-Trux Model at home too.
DRAW & DESIGN - pupils working independently
Guided by their teachers, pupils will learn about the waste we produce, why we divert waste from Landfill, how we recycle and the effects of waste on the environment. They will complete some activities in the Recycle Trux Workbooks (provided) and then create a drawing to reflect their learning.
The pupil drawings can be entered into the competition too - for the chance of 4 great pupil prizes of an iPad Mini!
Plus, an overall winner will get the chance to see their design re-created on the side of a Mick George Ltd Recycling Truck which travels the roads in their area every day.
