Pidley Community Playground

The Pidley based project is a rare but wonderful story due to the nature of its initiation by two budding young entrepreneurs who displayed a compelling case, demonstrating the need for a recreational area within the village during a local photography day.

The £10,000 grant provided by Mick George Ltd supported the development which included construction of fencing, pavements and cycle paths, plus grass and tree planting as well as the purchase of picnic tables and play equipment.

The park has become the central hub of the village where family and friends frequently congregate to socialise in a relaxing and picturesque environment. Hosting family-fetes and other events, the site offers a fabulous atmosphere to enjoy night or day.

Dave Bird, at Pidley-cum-Fenton Parish Council said: ‘’The park has been extremely well received from all residents. It has brought large sections of a small community together, both young and old, helping to establish some fantastic relationships.’’

Bird Continued: ‘’It has provided a much needed facility for children and importantly it has been the catalyst for further developments to improve the quality of infrastructure for future generations within the village’’.

The Community Fund which is managed by Grantscape, an independent charity, supports community projects that are located in the vicinity of Mick George Ltd operating sites in Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland. Up to £200,000 is made available each year for projects that deliver significant environmental benefits and provide new and better community amenities.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd ‘’The scheme has proven invaluable to many local communities, helping to create, restore and protect a whole array of landmarks and projects. Since 2010 when the programme was launched, £682,000 has been invested in over twenty five individual developments.’’
