Peterborough City Hospital
As the festive period approaches, Peterborough United FC and Mick George Ltd sought to raise the spirits of patients at Peterborough City Hospital ahead of Christmas.
A handful of Peterborough United players and mascots 'Mick the Skip' and ‘Peter Burrow' were on hand to bring a little festive cheer to the occasion. The joy was clear to see on the children's faces when they were given the opportunity to meet some of their football idols whilst receiving presents.
POSH captain Ben Alnwick, defenders Michael Smith and Jack Baldwin, midfielders Harry Beautyman, Harry Anderson, Erhun Oztumer and Chris Forrester as well as striker Joe Gormley were in attendance and spent time with the children and their families during the visit. The presents were kindly financed by Mick George Ltd, Serpentine Green and the Leeton Group.
A spokesman at Peterborough United FC said: ''We would like to say a massive thank you to Serpentine Green and the Leeton Group for not only purchasing the presents for the youngsters, but also for their assistance in wrapping the presents. We would also like to say a big thank you to Mick George Ltd for their continued support. The footballs went down a treat with the youngsters (and their parents) and it is fantastic that they are so pro-active with the local community.''
Peterborough United FC Defender Michael Smith commented: 'It was my first time visiting the ward last year and I volunteered again this year because I know just how much it means to the youngsters. It is really tough to be in hospital at any time, but particularly at this time of year so for us, it was great to be able to spend some time with them. I would also like to take this opportunity to praise the fantastic work that the nurses undertake on a daily basis. They are the unsung heroes.'’
