Hear what our employees had to say
When I was looking for a new job over 3 years ago it was important I worked for a company that provided me with the right environment to enable me to develop and achieve my goals. I’m a firm believer that you get out what you put in and at Mick George the hard work I’ve put is certainly paying off.
I first joined the Company in July 2012 as a Customer Services Representative. Throughout the years, I have been given the opportunity to develop my knowledge of the Company as well as the wider industry by working in several different departments including Procurement, Contracting and Planning. Mick George Ltd provides chances for those wishing to progress and encourages professional growth.
I joined Mick George back in 2015 as a payroll administrator, and from there, I’ve progressed to managing the Company’s payroll, which is in excess of 1,200 people, and the department as a whole! The support that I’ve received from Mick George Ltd has been second to none – I’m currently in year two of my Payroll Management Foundation Degree (CIPP) which they have funded.
I started at Mick George Ltd in January 2015 and over the three years, I have seen for myself the growth the Company has made in such a short space of time. This has opened up new opportunities within the Company that I have been able to progress into as part of my role in the Compliance Team. I'm looking forward to a long and successful career here at Mick George Ltd.
I started working for Mick George Ltd in March 2016 as Sales Admin with no previous experience, but have since progressed into a Commercial Sales Support Supervisor role. I have had huge support from my team and the management within the company, who have helped me so much along the way. I am looking forward to my future at Mick George and learning more about the ever-growing business.
The Mick George Driver Training Academy is a great way to get into driving HGVs. I didn't really know where to start, but the trainers here are fantastic and helped me every step of the way! I would recommend it to anyone considering driving as a profession, and am now fully settled into my job here, enjoying every second.
I stepped into the Transport department at Mick George more than 3 years ago with the hunger to work for a company that is pushing forward in this industry. My team and I are able to have a good laugh but at the same time we are all dedicated and care a lot about doing a noble job which in some cases is under extreme pressure, especially with the fleet size increasing week by week.
Emily, Customer Services
There is a strong family culture about Mick George Ltd as a Company, and since starting over three years ago, I have really felt at home. I first started as an order processor in the busy Call Centre and have now progressed to working within the new Retail team, where I am learning about, and processing, over 50,000 products - I learn something new every day!
James, Weighbridge Operator
I was originally head-hunted when I began my career at Mick George Ltd, with having experience of Transport planning in the past. I love meeting such a wide variety of people on a day to day basis here, and hearing stories of driver's days when they arrive on site. The transport industry is a really exciting place to be, and although I've only been here a couple of months, I've really been able to get stuck into my role. If I wasn't at Mick George, I'd love to still be within the industry; but I'd probably turn my hand at being a forklift operator.
Robbie, Apprentice Electrician
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far at Mick George Ltd as an Apprentice Electrician. I have acquired so many new skills which I probably would not have touched upon if I had chosen a different career route. I am looking forward to what lays ahead for me next!
Chris, Head of Sales
Mick George Ltd has enabled me to greatly boost my career by developing my sales skills and industry knowledge on a range of exciting and challenging projects. There are no limitations for growth within the company and I have always been encouraged to challenge myself, improve my knowledge and develop new skills.
I’ve been coming back to work for Mick George Ltd as a Finance temp in between University for the last two years. The treatment I receive is no different to that of permanent staff, which keeps me coming back year after year. The in-house training on new programmes and software is great and helps me develop my skill-set which will stay with me for the rest of my career.
I chose a career at Mick George Ltd less than three months ago based on the company's reputation, and the rapid growth that I have noticed within my local hometown. Since I have started I have been faced with exciting challenges daily, but the support system within the company has meant that someone has been there to help me if I have needed it every step of the way.
Carlie, Technical Sales
I’ve been with Mick George Ltd for over five years now and I have loved every minute of it. I first started in the Customer Service department, but the constant opportunities to progress have led me into my current role as a Technical Waste Assessor. I have learnt so much through developing within the company and I hope that I can still take advantage of the progression opportunities that the company provides in the coming years.
After years of working in hospitality, I decided I wanted a change. I passed my HGV test, applied online, and here I am, with two years experience under my belt already! It wasn’t a hard decision to make to apply here; the company is expanding rapidly, and with all of the lorries in this area being predominantly Mick George branded, I knew this was somewhere that I could progress my new career move in.
Paul, Concrete Sales
I started off at Mick George Ltd as a driver 12 years ago. Previous to this, I used to be a tyre fitter in a workshop, and always wanted to try my hand at operating the machines that I worked on. I followed my head and now my heart is fully in the career that I aspired to work in. I've now progressed through the company and work in the Concrete team as a Sales Manager, and I'm enjoying every second of it.
I'd definitely encourage a career within the Transport industry, it's an opportunity of a lifetime. Once you have your licenses and your truck, you're essentially your own boss. Plus, lorries these days are luxurious, especially with all of the added mod-cons!
Scott, Tipper Driver
I decided to get into driving as my Father previously owned a haulage Company and I wanted to follow in his footsteps; I've since been driving for 5 years. A career with Mick George appealed to me mainly due to the pay that they offer their drivers, I'm also able to do mainly day work, which is great as I still have time to myself once I have clocked out for the day.
I'd definitely encourage a career in driving. There may be long hours some days, but a turnover of more drivers in the UK I believe will ultimately push the Transport industry forward, meaning the wages for us all will be increased; an additional selling point to an already fantastic career opportunity.
Paul, Weighbridge Operator
I used to be a driver before I joined Mick George as a Weighbridge Operator. I heard about the career opportunities here through my brother, who also works for the Company, and have now been here for a year and a half. If I wasn't in the role I'm in at the moment, I'd love to get back behind the wheel and drive for Mick George, and would urge anyone who is considering a driving role to go for it - it's a great, safe career, and one that will stick with you for years.
