28.01.16 - Mick George Ltd provide a smooth ride at Addenbrookes Hospital
Having taken its ‘Stay Safe on the Road’ campaign to numerous schools throughout the region, Mick George Ltd in association with Skanska continued its road safety tour by dropping in at Addenbrookes Hospital.
The initiative is predominantly aimed at demonstrating how road safety conditions could be improved for Cambridge cyclists by fitting heavy goods vehicles with special safety features.
Members of the public were given the opportunity to climb aboard the lorry cab, to sample the improved warning signals, view the additional mirrors, proximity cameras and sensors, as well as being provided with an informative discussion on the vehicles blind spots and the vulnerability of cyclists when in the vicinity of large commercial vehicles.
An extra bonus for this stop was the ‘Move ‘n’ Smooth’ bike which gave visitors the chance to have a little fun whilst achieving health benefits. The specially designed bike has the function to blend fruit in to a smoothie whist the cyclist pedals away.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’Mick George Ltd have recently completed Earthworks at Adddenbrookes Hospital as part of the on-going development and witnessed first hand just how busy and potentially dangerous the surrounding routes could be.’’
Stump continued: ‘’The demonstrations have been well received thus far and we thought this would be another good opportunity for us to display to the public how to better approach such situations given the natural health linkages. Visitors also enjoyed their free smoothies.’’
