21.04.2016 - Mick George Ltd announce new charity of the year
2016 is a special year for Addenbrooke’s Hospital as it marks the 250th anniversary of the hospital and it has an extra reason to remain buoyant after the announcement that local business Mick George Ltd has selected the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) as its charity of the year.
The hospital was initiated thanks to a gift of £4,676 from Dr.John Addenbrooke, and ACT is extremely grateful to learn that Mick George Ltd has set a donation target in excess of £100,000 to be achieved through a variety of carefully scheduled fundraising campaigns throughout the year.
Carla Brown, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust said: ‘’Everyone at ACT is over the moon to be embarking on a partnership with the team at Mick George Ltd. We are so pleased that they have chosen to support the work of Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals and dedicate commitment to the thousands of patients that are treated at the hospitals every year, not to mention their family and friends.
Brown continued: ‘’It is well known that Mick George Ltd are focused on giving back to the community and we are excited about strengthening and developing this endeavour in the future with a variety of fundraising activities.’’
All funds raised will be invested to improve the care and experience for patients and their families at both Addenbrooke’s and Rosie hospitals with specific attention attributed to the ‘Healing Spaces’ initiative that the hospital is currently engaged in.
Calm and spacious surroundings can reduce the stress or anxiety of a hospital visit whilst aiding recovery, for that reason a large proportion of the funds raised are being allocated to the redevelopment of the outpatient’s garden. With over half a million visits to outpatients every year, the creation of a picturesque environment to be enjoyed by patients, staff and visitors alike is certain to be a much welcomed addition to the hospital grounds.
Fundraising activities will see Mick George Ltd, support the Addenbrooke’s Charity Lottery, donate money from online orders through their website, as well as completing a ‘Tour De Mick’ 250 mile relay cycle ride for employees across the businesses various operating sites.
The showpiece event will be a football tournament in which Mick George Ltd will be hosting and inviting local businesses, and communities to participate to raise funds. And that’s not all, the company is challenging each of its employees to use their entrepreneurial spirit to raise £250 for the cause for which the business will show its support.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’The hospital has earned the reputation of being among the world’s best academic healthcare organisations and Mick George Ltd are tremendously proud to be working in partnership with such a prestigious charity.’’
Stump continued: ‘’The fantastic work the hospital does to help improve the health of its patients isn’t possible without the appropriate resource to fund its clinical research programme, innovative technologies and specialist staff made possible by ACT. We hope the quality service in which the hospital prides itself on will continue to improve with our assistance.’’
