Mepal Recreation Field Renovation
The Mick George Group have supported Mepal Parish Council with their local Recreation Field Renovation project to help bring football and other recreational activity back to the village, a vital development to supplement the excellent modern Pavilion, with full changing rooms which were recently added.
Mepal Parish Council have been working alongside Mepal Seniors and other local football Clubs who provide both junior and Senior participation, and have been calling out for more pitches in the local area.
Thanks to support from the Mick George Community Fund, this venue has become a real asset to the community and given the Parish Council the option to introduce other physical activities on and around the renovated area. There has been a lot of support on social media to encourage the Parish Council to facilitate the return of football, but also to have a sports field where other sports can be established.
The funding has permitted installation of fencing and a gate around the attenuation pond, along with vehicle access barriers and new gate access to the Car Park. It also funded the car park resurfacing and an accessible path around the field.
Environmentally, areas have been planted with wildflowers and to encourage wildlife and diversity in a managed way, in an area that was previously overrun with brambles and also evidence of fly tipping.
A spokesperson for the Parish Council commented: ”We are all aware of the benefits of physical activity can generate, and this project is the first stage in providing the village with first class facilities for competitive sports, including a perimeter running track/path to encourage activity and exercise. Socially, younger residents are not well provided for and so we are very keen to provide opportunities for sport and recreation.”
