27.01.16 - Lions ROAR after receiving Mick George Ltd funding

Having established major success on the field after being crowned East Midlands’ champions last season, Peterborough Lions Rugby Club have drawn up plans to make substantial improvements to the grounds from which the club operates after making the step up to National level 3.

On top of the success achieved by the 1st XV, the club also has a thriving development, social, academy and youth scene which sees in excess of 150 youngsters participating each week but unfortunately the existing changing facilities are preventing further expansion within the club.

Currently playing from Bretton Park, the council owned premises is set to undergo major renovation thanks to funding from local business Mick George Ltd. The investment will see new Home and Away dressing rooms built with toilets, showers and storage areas that will be permanently available for all participants. It will also see a dedicated area for Mini and Junior Rugby players.

Andy Moore, Chairman of Peterborough Lions Rugby Club said: ‘’Peterborough Lions are immensely grateful for the grant from the Mick George Community Fund. It will make a huge difference not only to the players at the club, but also for the wider community as we will be able to host other sports and events at the site, as well as increasing player participation for the rugby club. The improvements we are able to make as a result of the grant will provide a facility for sport and leisure for both current and future generations.’’

The new changing facilities are part of a five year regeneration programme extending the current provisions, adding Netball, Basketball and Tennis Courts to the location.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’Our business has associated itself with a number of local sports clubs in various ways, whether it be sponsorship arrangements or direct funding such as this. However, this is the first venture in to the world of Rugby but one we are particularly proud to be involved.’’
