Leicestershire Skip of Gold Winners 2019

For the past two months, Mick George Ltd has been running its ‘Skip of Gold’ competition in partnership with the Leicester Mercury, providing local sports clubs and community groups the chance to win £1,000.

Over 100 applications were proposed before a shortlist of the 42 most deserving cases were put forward to the voting stage. In excess of 1,600 votes were submitted ahead of the eventual winners being selected based on the most votes received.

Congratulations to Riverside United Junior FC for scooping the 2019 Skip of Gold accolade. The group managed to edge out Elite Cheer Academy who finished worthy runners-up, while third position was secured by Cottesmore Amateur Football.

Since their formation as a charity run, community football club back in 2006, Riverside Utd JFC have offered local children of various ages the opportunity to learn and enjoy football. In recent years the club has grown rapidly through the focused efforts of its committee and volunteers. Riverside United JFC now offer unrivalled facilities and equipment locally, with all teams benefiting from access to FA qualified coaches too. June 2019 saw the club host its annual presentation evening with an unprecedented 500 players, volunteers and supporters in attendance. A number that is testament to the dedication of its members and a sign of more impressive things to come.

The popularity of the annual competition seems to be increasing. Previously, Leicester Mums and Groby Library have each been successful in winning the available prize money, for which the benefits have been clearly visible for all connected.
