27.07.2016 - Lead the U's out for the Seasons Opener at the Abbey Stadium
After a Summer of internationals, the Amber Army will be glad to see the return of domestic football next week, where fans will get the first glimpse of their side at the home fixture against Barnet from the Abbey Stadium.
Everyone connected with the club is looking to build on the later part of last years campaign, with a promotion push very much the target. The opening home fixture is expected to set the tone for the season with official sponsors Mick George Ltd displaying an array of entertainment offerings for supporters to make the occasion a memorable one.
Mick George Ltd are giving one lucky U’s supporter a once in a lifetime opportunity to be the mascot for the first home game against Barnet on 6th August. The selected mascot will join the team on the pitch for a warm up and then lead the team out onto the pitch before kick-off. Other highlights will include meeting the players, having a tour of the changing rooms and collecting autographs and photographs.
The fixture will also see the launch of the new look ‘Skip challenge’, which this season will see two U’s supporters go head to head with two away supporters in a timed challenge to chip multiple balls from various points in to the Skip, culminating with the Golden Ball which offers a cash prize starting at £200, with a £50 rollover for each fixture that participants are unsuccessful.
The Mick George Cheerleaders will be in attendance and will be performing a new routine pre match and at half time. They will be giving away FREE limited edition T-Shirts to supporters which contain the club and Mick George Ltd logos plus a complete list of fixtures for the 2016/2017 season.
Other activities will include the new ‘Inflatable Shootout’ that will be present in the car-park as well as the ever present, ‘Mick the Skip Mascot’.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’The first home game always creates a special buzz around the ground and we’re hoping to add to that upbeat atmosphere with a few extra surprises.’’
Stump continued: ‘’Last season we engaged with the Cambridge United supporters in various ways to offer special opportunities, including VIP away games, mascot packages, playing on the Abbey Stadium pitch to name but a few, and we were encouraged by the feedback. This is something we’re looking to embrace again this season.’’
