Huntingdon Skip of Gold Winners

For the past 3 months, Mick George Ltd has been running its ‘Skip of Gold’ competition in partnership with the Hunt Post, providing local sports clubs and community groups the chance to win £1,000.

Over 100 applications were proposed before a shortlist of the 20 most deserving cases were put forward to the voting stage. In excess of 1,700 votes were submitted ahead of the eventual winners being selected based on the most votes received.

It was certainly a closely contested battle, with less than 2% in the voting. Congratulations to Carers Trust Cambridgeshire for scooping the 2017 Skip of Gold accolade. The group managed to edge out Bluntisham Baptist Church who were worthy runners-up, while third position was secured by St. Neots Rowing Club.

Carers Trust Cambridgeshire has grown significantly over the past seven years, providing more services and help to carers and families across the county. In 2015-16, Carers Trust Cambridgeshire, Peterborough & Norfolk provided over 54,000 individual breaks for carers of adults, young carers and families of children with disabilities.

The group is the leading local fully Care Quality Commission compliant organisation providing respite care specifically for family carers.

The popularity of the annual competition seems to be increasing. Previously, Huntingdon Rugby Club and Methodist Church has been successful in taking the prize fund, for which the benefits have been clearly visible for all connected.

We run support groups for Young Carers aged 8+ across Huntingdonshire in the community and in local secondary schools. Thank you to all who supported and voted for Carers Trust Cambridgeshire.’’

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd: ‘’It was fantastic to see the community embrace the Skip of Gold competition, the support that the various groups received was overwhelming. This is the second time that we have run the competition in partnership with the Hunts Post and it’s clear to see by the vast number of entries just how important this support can be for the development of each nomination.’’

Stump Continued: ‘’We are increasingly active within the Huntingdon area supporting activities, individuals, clubs and charities at all levels from grass roots to professional outfits. The Mick George Skip of Gold competition provides a little more insight to what the community really care about and are involved in within their daily lives. The £1,000 prize fund will undoubtedly make a real difference, and should help build to a brighter future. We are proud of our community initiatives and look forward to any forthcoming engagement.’’
