Harborough Town FC
Having kick started the new 2019 / 2020 season with a 1-1 draw away at Boston Town FC at the weekend, those connected with Harborough Town FC had many reasons to be ‘buzzing’ about their return to the Beehive for the first home league game of the season against Oadby Town FC this week.
As well as witnessing a first win of the campaign for the ‘Bees’, supporters also got their first glimpse of an impressive refurbishment which has been completed during pre-season on the Members Bar facility, courtesy of a £35,000 donation from local construction firm Mick George Ltd.
Since switching to the new ground, the Club has experienced growing demand which prompted Harborough Town Community Trust to seek funding to enhance the Clubs’ facilities.
The previously dull and uninviting venue has been transformed in to a bright and airy room with a vibrant atmosphere, owing largely to the fresh decoration, flooring and furniture throughout.
In addition, the funds have been utilised to form a new physio room, available for use by members and the community alike, and to improve security provisions at the destination with the installation of CCTV and lighting.
The facilities at Harborough Town support grassroots football for up to 1000 users per week, for male, female adult and youth, inclusive, schools, veterans and walking football, as well as local rounders, netball and fitness clubs, plus social and commercial gatherings.
The ‘Community Trust’ behind the scheme is already formulating plans for the next upgrades which could include the replacement of the existing 3g pitch, and the conversion of roof space in to meeting rooms.
Peter Dougan, Chairman at Harborough Town FC said: ‘’We’re tremendously pleased with the outcome. The feedback that we’ve received from all visitors has been very positive with the general public making bookings for the physio room already. We’ve created a safer and more hospitable environment for members and the community to enjoy. We’re grateful to Mick George Ltd for their contribution.’’
Stuart Costello, Marketing Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’We now have two sites in operation within the Leicestershire region. As we have in the other territories that we’re more established, we recognise the importance in building positive relations with the local community. We’re hopeful our involvement with projects such as this will go a long way in building our presence in the area. This is just one of multiple initiatives that we’re currently supporting in Leicestershire with financial assistance’’
