GBBO Fever Spreads across MGL!

With the return of the Great British Bake Off to our screens this Autumn, the very fitting event which one of our charities of the year, Macmillan Cancer Support, have organised certainly put the cherry on top of the week here at Mick George Ltd!

With the return of the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ on 29th September, staff at Mick George Ltd were desperate to sink their teeth into sugary treats throughout the day, and at just 50p per pop, cake was being eaten like it was going out of fashion. Other staff got involved and created their own ‘Showstopper’ bakes for our GBBO inspired competition, which caused a stir in the office of who would come out on top, and whether any of the cakes would have a soggy bottom.

Bakes were judged on both overall appearance as well as taste. Luckily, at hand on the day was our very own Mary Berry; Managing Director, Mick George, who very rightfully awarded the competition prize, tickets to a Little Mix concert, to Lidia from our housekeeping team, who created a magnificent mousse layered trifle cake!

Macmillan Cake Day

For the staff who were less inclined to put their baking skills to the test, uniform was set aside for the day, and instead, dress down clothing was encouraged in return for a donation to the worthy cause. Overall, a total just shy of £500 was raised on the day for Macmillan.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd, commented: “We’re always as flexible as we can possibly be when it comes to fundraising days here at Mick George Ltd. The fact that Macmillan are one of our Charities of the year makes it even more important for us to get involved in their Coffee morning event, and a great excuse for us all to eat cake!”

Stump continued: “Macmillan Cancer Support help thousands of people across not just our operating area, but the UK too, so it’s always rewarding to know we are giving something back to a charity that provides so much.”
