06.07.2016 - Funding Application ‘Works Out’ for Mawsley Outdoor Gym
A focal point of Mawsley Village, the recreation ground adjacent to Mawsley Community Centre is set to undergo improvements with the installation of an outdoor gym after The Parish Council were successful with a recent funding application.
Local business, Mick George Ltd has provided a grant of £7,600 to create the leisure amenity which will be predominantly targeted to youths aged between 14 – 17 years of age. The development will consist of groundworks in preparation of soft matt flooring and 6 individual pieces of equipment being fitted.
Given the rural isolation of the village, with limited public transport links and the nearest traditional Gym located over 5 miles away, it was felt this would be an ideal solution for the specified age categories who have out grown existing skate ramps, ball parks and junior play areas in the village.
Spokesperson at The Parish Council said: ‘'On behalf of The Parish Council, we would like to thank Mick George Ltd in granting funds for the installation and provision of exercise equipment on Mawsley playing field.’’
Outdoor Gym facilities seem to be cropping up all over the country, providing a genuine social environment in which local residents can be encouraged to improve fitness, health and well-being. Feedback from the local community was particularly optimistic, receiving hundreds of positive ‘likes’ on social media within just 24hours of being announced.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’We are associated with a number of sporting initiatives and partnerships from professional outfits through to grass roots and this project ties in nicely. Where feasible, we will support developments that have a positive influence on giving direction to youngsters, especially when it impacts in a helpful manner towards their health.’’
