The recent report suggests that if countries could bring the e-waste collection and recycling rates to 60% by 2023, the benefits could exceed costs by over 30 billion pounds.
Global E-Waste Volumes
A report has found that the global level of electronic waste is rising five times faster than what is reportedly being recycled. A record 62 million tonnes of electronic waste was produced in 2022, a massive increase of 83% from 2010.
The global level of electronic waste is said to be rising by roughly 2.6 million tonnes annually and presents a growing issue facing the environment.
Recycling E-Waste Initiatives
The production of electronic items is growing year on year and as we produce more, we naturally dispose of more. Disposing of electronic waste not only harms the environment, it is also a costly process when done properly. The recent report suggests that if countries could bring the e-waste collection and recycling rates to 60% by 2023, the benefits could exceed costs by over 30 billion pounds.
