Boston Squash and Racketball Club
Boston Squash and Racketball Club, on Rosebery Avenue has been serving the community of Boston and the surrounding areas strongly, for 60 years, with in excess of 10,000 visitors annually, benefiting from the amenity.
Now catering for the masses, naturally the premises have evolved somewhat from its original design. Today hosting 5 courts, a gym, as well as other bar and function room facilities, the members-only club has in recent times set out to grow its audience to new levels, further enhancing the appeal of the sport.
Following a successful grant application to Mick George Ltd, a construction brand that dominates East Anglia and East Midlands, and now also has a base in the town, the club’ has managed to complete comprehensive refurbishments to the changing rooms and toilet areas, which are 20 years old.
The £14,000 fund helped to purchase a fully functioning suite of wash facilities. that included 3 urinals, 5 ecofriendly toilets, 5 wash basins and taps, 4 mirrors and various other decorative, and labour costs.
The ‘England Squash Silver Chartered Club’, provides a welcoming environment, playing host to tournaments, leagues and county matches, at both amateur and professional levels.
Currently, the location provides leisure opportunities for those aged between 8 and 80, and with its junior coaching, thriving ladies group, disability lessons and links to schools and colleges in the region, the signs are encouraging for the future.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’We’ve assisted many sports clubs over the year, but this is our first venture in to the world of Squash and Racketball. We recognise the significance of the fund to the various applicants that we receive, and consider it carefully in our decision making process, to ensure we support a diverse nature of projects.’’
Stump Continued: ‘’Boston is a relatively new territory for the business, but one we are keen to engage with the local community, to the same degree we do elsewhere. Having already provided funds to a local school in the area through another initiative, we hope it shows our commitment to the area.’’
