Bluntisham Cricket Club
Mill Lane Recreation Ground was a hive of activity on Friday evening as Bluntisham Cricket Club hosted a special T20 Cricket match between themselves and local Construction Company Mick George Ltd.
The match follows on from a substantial £35,000 grant that the business provided to the club, which enabled them to purchase impressive new duel lane practice nets for teams of all ages to access and enjoy.
The official opening of the new net facilities took place before the game itself, after a training session with the Junior All-Stars Cricket team lead by local Celebrity and Former England Cricket captain, Charlotte Edwards.
With strong ties within the local area, Charlotte grew up nearby and was keen to get back to the ground to test out the new nets. As an ex-member of Bluntisham Cricket Club, the former England Captain was excited at the prospect that more club members will be able to develop their skills and hopefully progress through the sport in a similar manner to herself.
First to head into field was the Mick George XI side, joined by Charlotte who was keen to test ger credentials against many friends. The Former England Captain soon proved her worth, as she took the first wicket, sending one of the opposition out back to the pavillion.
Bluntisham finished their 15 overs on 192-1, meaning that the heat was certainly on for the Mick George XI to battle back and beat their rivals. Not wanting to disappoint the many spectators which reached almost 150 people during the evening, the Mick George side managed to pull the game out of the bag and smashed the Bluntisham score with an over and a half to spare.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George commented: “Our involvement with the local cricket scene is certainly increasing. Seeing how much the new facilities truly mean to the club and the local community is so humbling and positive, and we are thrilled at the large turnout to celebrate the official opening of the new amenities.”
